The Shimano TL-FC16 tool is compatible with Hollowtech II crank arms and 2-piece cranks. It has a multi-tooth profile and is made of robust plastic. TL-FC16 is applied directly to the crank bolt by hand without a carrier tool and tightened to 0.7 to 1.5 Nm.

Installation Steps

Here’s how to use the TL-FC16 tool for crank arm installation:

Prepare the Crank Arm: Ensure the left crank arm is properly aligned with the crank spindle.
Insert the Crank Bolt: Thread the crank bolt into the crank arm by hand.
Use the TL-FC16 Tool: Engage the TL-FC16 tool directly onto the crank bolt2.
Tighten to Specified Torque: Tighten the crank bolt using the TL-FC16 tool to the manufacturer’s specified torque, which is 0.7 to 1.5 Nm. The tool is designed to help prevent over-tightening when done by hand
